Grasser Dress #132

This is a basic sloper pattern for dresses made of knit fabric featuring a raglan sleeve with a slim (but not close) fit. I selected size 44/height 164-170 based on my body measurements.

Grasser patterns are sized based on heights as well so they are a bit more true to size in my experience. With its slim fit, the shift silhouette features raglan three quarter length sleeves

Lady McElroy ponte jersey fabrics in hummingbirds is a charming print. The hummingbirds are quaint surrounded by the lush tropical leaves with their mustard colour popping amidst the deep blues. I bought 2m and that was enough for this style

The jersey had a lovely handle and moves fluidly – more fluidly that I had thought a fabric described as ponte could.

Brief intro to Grasser Patterns

Grasser Bureau is a sewing and design bureau that offers professional sewing courses in Moscow and St. Petersburg. They teach fashion design and industrial sewing in the premises as well sell downloadable PDF sewing patterns. The PDFs ca n printed at home on A4 or at a print shop.

The sizing is based on bust/waist/hip as well as height measurements which makes the fit more accurate than most patterns.

The sewing instructions are based on industrial sewing methods so the seam allowances vary depending on which seam it is. For example side seams will be 1cm and neckline seam will be 7mm. Smaller seam allowances mean that you save time as you do not have to trim down the allowances. I much prefer industrial sewing methods when I sew now.

Grasser sewing pattern instructions are written in Russian so you do have to be willing to figure things out for more complex designs. However, for this minimal design style, sewing beginners can easily manage. I do recommend checking out Grasser if you are looking for fashion forward and challenging projects.

I am a fan of raglan sleeves. The Lady McElroy adds a modern print to an otherwise minimal design. This is what makes this sort of pattern (Grasser #132) perfect to showcase your stunning fabric.

Verdict

Love it! I wear this dress A LOT layered in winter with leggings and a roll neck. Its also works for spring just by itself. The fabric has washed really well and maintained its vibrancy.
