Kwik Sew K4069 Review

Kwik Sew 4069 is one of those basic sewing patterns that are the foundation of any fall/winter wardrobe. I departed from my TNT Burda 09/2010 #121 Roll neck sewing pattern to try something different. This post is my pattern review of Kwik Sew K6049.

KwikSew K4069 is a sewing pattern for a pullover top with turtleneck collar. There are 2 sleeve variations – View A has three-quarter length sleeves and View B has long sleeves. I sewed View B.

The size range is from XS (29″-30″ bust) to XL (43″-45″ bust). I traced and cut a size S.

Organic Cotton Jersey

I sewed it using an organic cotton jersey and may I say it was lush! The fabric was from Fabworks Mill Shop in Dewsbury. The jersey is super soft and snuggly with a soft handle. I’d definitely use again. Though not my usual colours, I am trying out new things. Not too sure this a colour I would necessarily jump at again.

Did it look like the picture

The envelope picture suggests a super snug fit. However I found it wasn’t quite as snug. I sewed a size small that matched to my bust measurement. Perhaps in future I will go for the smaller size (XS) combined with a broad shoulder adjustment – do I have the inclination to do all this? Probably not but in case you share similar fit issues to me then this info may help.

The roll neck is more loose than in the picture on the pattern envelope. It would need to be adjusted to make it look like the pattern envelope picture. Edina’s version is more like what I had wanted.

Construction

This project was mostly sewn on my overlocker. I hemmed using my walking foot and a three step zigzag setting on my sewing machine.

Sewing this project was relatively quick since it has only 4 pattern pieces. That makes it very beginner friendly.

Fit and any alterations

The fit is meant to follow your body and it does. The front and back pattern pieces have a distinct curve at the waist. I felt that the fit could have been more snug as a result of basing it on the picture.

Verdict

I will definitely be making this top again. I realised that I am not too fussed about the neck. During winter I was pulling it on a lot as a layering piece – I think this is, in part, due to the loveliness of the organic cotton.

To sum up, I’d say that if you were making this then getting the nicest jersey is the best bet. This was my second K4069, the first one was the Missoni inspired one for the Minerva Craft Blogger Network > link here <.
