Last year I wanted to vlogmas but it wasn’t until the last minute that I realised it and so I didn’t. I did, however, watch a lot of vlogmases on Youtube in order to get some vlogmas ideas for 2023. But first –

What is Vlogmas?

Vlogmas is a yearly tradition on Youtube where content creators post a daily video-blog (vlog) for the 24 days in the lead up to Christmas. It was started by Ingrid Nilsen in 2011 and has become a staple ever since.

What was clear to me was that planning was the key to get through all the days. So I started a page in my bullet journal with vlogmas ideas. These were mostly sewing sphere related at first but as I have now had one week of vlogmas under my belt, it isn’t so much about keeping it sewing related but about sharing the behind the scenes stuff. The part of life that you live away from sewing. And its been fun! I am really enjoying this vlogging stuff.

I am learning a lot about myself and how I can articulate my thoughts/ideas/choices without the option of editing or cutting out bloopers. I am literally just recording as I go along. If you’d like to see a slice of my unfiltered life I have included the first 7 days videos below with the titles giving you an idea of what to expect.

The concept reminded me of similar things in the blogging sphere like Blogtober (a challenge I’d like to do as well where you write a blog post every day in October). Without further ado here are some vlogmas ideas from my list. Remember to keep it simple!

10 Vlogmas Ideas to try out in 2023

  1. Decorating the tree.
  2. Favourite all time Christmas Movies.
  3. Best Christmas songs
  4. Christmas gift guide
  5. Favourite books of the year
  6. Visiting a local Christmas market
  7. Checking out the Christmas lights locally
  8. Christmas shopping
  9. Family Christmas traditions
  10. Christmas menu planning

That being said though, the best thing about daily blogging so far has been the spontaneity of it all. I never really know what the end result will look like. For instance, on the day I did my gift guide I had to record it as I was folding laundry in my utility room because that was the only time I was going to be able to do it!

There is something liberating about free form content creating compared to a crafted scripted piece. You can check out my vlogs here for the first week of December – in all my family regalia!
