Top Best 8 Sewing Patterns of 2023 - saturday nights stitch a sewing blog

1 – The Everyday Chic Dress

Whether you are looking to make a simple easy to wear garment or a quick DIY sewing project, The Everyday Chic Dress by Sew Different Patterns is the one. This pattern is all about simple modern style with plenty of opportunities for hacking. This is the go-to for uncomplicated yet modern designs. Check out my makes here.

2 – McCalls M6044 Men’s Shirts

I am a huge fan of McCalls M6044 Mens Shirt sewing pattern. Its a simple DIY shirt making project that is perfect for entry-level sewing beginners. With the addition of a back yoke and front shoulder yoke, there are many opportunities for unique design features. See the shirts here.

3 – Vogue 1486 Skirt

When Australian designer Nicola Finetti joined Vogue’s designer sewing pattern range, he brought a strong bold feminine sensibility paired with technical fabrics. Vogue V1486 is a triumph of design married to structured fabrics. The style creates a stunning full A-line skirt with the use of box pleats. Check out my skirts here.

4 – Kate & Rose Giselle Maxi Dress

Boho chic is definitely enjoying its turn in the spotlight at the moment and I’m loving it. This design is a result of Kate’s love of Hungarian folklore roots. With a full gathered skirt and the option of going sleeveless, the Giselle Maxi Dress is a delight to sew up.

5 – Grainline Studio Alder Shirtdress

The Alder Shirtdress is the ultimate shirtdress. With its laid back yet polished look, the design is minimal yet feminine. I am always torn between the “bum ruffle” version and the straight side seam version. Both make lovely practical garments. See my many projects here.

6 – Named Helmi Tunic Dress

The Helmi Tunic Dress from Named Patterns is the epitome of chic and pared back style. It exudes effortless femininity while embodying the minimalism stereotypically associated with Scandi designers. Check out my needlecord Hemi here.

7 – SewHouse7 Toaster Sweater

The Toaster sweater is one for an effortlessly stylish DIY sewing project. Both views of this pattern are easy, elegant basics that you’ll wear for seasons to come. Easy, effortless, ageless; what more could we want from a sewing pattern? This is probably why it was Pattern Review’s Best Pattern in 2017. Check out mine here.

8 – StitchlessTV Sculptural Bucket Coat

The Sculptural Bucket Coat walks the fine line of balance between edgy and elegant. It is a fashion-forward design with a hint of quirk. It is a playful, imaginative garment design that embodies Tree’s approach to sewing on her SewingTV. Read all about my animal print coat here.
