This post is a Burda 1/2020 #108 Pattern Review that I actually sewed in January! It is always a buzz for me when I sew a Burdastyle project in the same month as the magazine. It makes me feel like I am a grown-up :-).

I am also super excited because I recorded a sewing video for this project where I share a lot of tips and hacks (scroll to the bottom of the post for the video).

Burda 1/2020 #108 Pattern Review

Pattern Description: A simple and chic dress featuring a wide high collar with a gathered bodice loose fit dress. It has bust darts for minimal shaping. The silhouette is a cocoon style with a hem narrower than the hip.

Pattern Sizing: EUR 32 – 42

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? – Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? – I think that the instructions were straight forward – the dress in itself has simple lines.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – I really liked the wide high neckline that has a vintage – y 60s feel to it.

Fabric Used: Viscose (rayon challis) that attracted me with the delightful confetti print.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The collar is supposed to be cut on the bias – I ignored that as I was already using a different colourway to create interset

Would you sew it again? No – because I didn’t like the way the back slit droops down. I may consider using a zip instead of button opening to remove this issue but to be honest I have many other patterns I want to sew up!

Would you recommend it to others? – Yes with the caveat that you use a slightly more stable fabric that will not droop at the back.

Conclusion – Though I like this dress and how it turned out – the back opening is annoying. This was purely due to using a very lightweight viscose fabric. It’s definitely a good alternative to a standard shift dress.
