Burda 2/2021 #101 is one of those patterns in the magazine that I knew I had to sew up as soon as I got the magazine. The pattern pieces may look a bit bizarre at first but after a bit of jigsaw puzzling they make sense. The dress came out just as I envisioned it. The drape of the AGF rayon/viscose fabric created a close silhouette. The style has been surprisingly suitable for day-to-day wear. When I first made it I thought I’d only be using it for special occasions but it’s a great day dress. It has a casual relaxed vibe that I’m enamoured with.

Pattern Sizing – EUR36-44.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? – Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? – It’s one of those patterns that is quite mind-boggling at first until you get it then any subsequent makes will be super easy. I recorded a tutorial on how to do the dress on my YT channel. I linked the video above.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – I like the wide sleeves and the wrap detail. The cuffs on the sleeve give opportunities for colour blocking.

Fabric Used: I used this utterly gorgeous AGF viscose rayon which has a lovely drape. I quite liked the splodges of hot pink amidst the autumnal pines. I prewashed at 30 degrees and tumble dried on low.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added pockets at the side seam.

Would you sew it again? Yes, I sewed another one in cotton poplin.

Would you recommend it to others? – Yes!

Conclusion – A great style that proves that simplicity often is best. I loved this so much that I made another one in cotton poplin which I will share very soon. I have no doubt that I’ll be making more in the future given its instant gratification status.

Pins, share and save for later –
