Today’s post is a Burda 4/2015 #105 sewing pattern review. I have to admit that this style is a little bit outside my comfort zone. Burdastyle 4/15 105 is a flapper style dress that lacks the waist definition I tend to favour in dresses. There was something about it that called to me – perhaps it’s the sleeveless style or the bow detail on a somewhat deep v neckline. Either way, I finally got round to sewing it up after the traced pattern had been waiting for several years. Initially, I wanted to sew it in a seersucker like the magazine styling picture, however, I never quite came across that type of fabric so it got forgotten until I saw this Lady McElroy crepe fabric. It has an incredible drape. This type of slubby crepe has become a wardrobe favourite as I have more than a handful of garments made from this type of fabric. It has an interesting surface texture that belies its actual softness. I have found that it washes well, which is why I tend to favour it! The drape meant that it would be perfect for this type of dress which has huge semi-circle godet like inserts on the side. I find that I like to wear it best with a slim tan belt. The dress is in my DIY Sewing Projects video if you want to see it in action.

Pattern Description – A simple yet very stylish dress with wide straps, a drop waist, and raised seams that has clean lines, with a straight fit at the top and widening from the hip thanks to two maxi godet wedges on the sides.

Pattern Sizing – EUR36-44 I sewed EUR38

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? – Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? – This is Burda so ………

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – I was initially attracted to the magazine image more than anything else – it was the blue seersucker fabric that had caught my eye when I traced it out years ago. Now that I have sewn it I really love the little tie bow detail and the way the insert circle skirt panel add lots of volume at the hem.

Burda 4/2015 #105 Sewing Pattern Review

Fabric Used: Lady McElroy Florenza crepe fabric “Hazelblooms”. Its a perfectly muted floral print with loads of charm. I prewashed on 30 degrees and tumble dried on low. It is 100% viscose crepe and at 53″ wide you get a lot per meter.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None.

Would you sew it again? Yes, eventually. I don’t feel an immediate desire to make a second one.

Would you recommend it to others? – Yes!

Conclusion

Thanks for reading my Burda 5/2015 #105 sewing pattern review. I do quite like this dress and wore it out at least 4 times in August. I’m not sure I’d want to sew another one straight away. It makes me feel quite elegant and I think its because of the darker floral pattern.
