This post is a Burda 7/2019 #117 pattern review. I have been sewing with Burda consistently these past 12 months and the more I use their patterns – the more I fall in love with my Burdastyle magazines.

I was excited (a teeny bit apprehensive) to sew with 100% silk crepe fabric. The giant houndstooth print packs a graphic punch that is perfect a style with simple lines.

Burda 7/19 #117 has a funny story behind it – basically out of all my 2019 Burda issues the July issue was my least favourite. I struggled to bond with it.

As a compromise, I ‘forced’ myself to find just the one thing to trace from it in order to justify the subscription. That one thing was top #117. I traced it straight away because, given how I felt about the issue, that I wouldn’t pick it up again.

Were the instructions easy to follow? – I sewed it without looking at the instructions. It is a simple style.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – I like the halter neck style that shows off the shoulders.

Fabric Used: Large houndstooth print. 100% Silk crepe. 56″ wide.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: 1. I lengthened it to make a midi dress. 2. I added a side slit.3.  I omitted the center back zip.

Would you sew it again? Yes

Conclusion – I love how this dress turned out. This simple classic style can be sewn over and over creating different looks depending on the fabrics used.
